Interstella
Metropolis 2009
Fritz Lang´s silent movie „Metropolis“ is an early vision of a highly advanced, technically oriented society on the verge of a breakdown. Interstella will pick up individual sequences of this 80-year-old movie and thus create a history for the year 2009 – about a highly advanced society, in which quite a few things are breaking down.
Metropolis is a silent science fiction film directed by Fritz Lang. It is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and examines a common science fiction theme of the day: the social crisis between workers and owners in capitalism. Metropolis was released in 1927 during a stable period of the Weimar Republic. The American copyright lapsed in 1953. (Words of Wikipedia)
80 Years later... after a long stable period in Europe... we see a crisis, and we don´t know the future. Interstella´s movies will be improvised. But for filmfreaks here are some optional components:
20 percent "Metropolis 1927"
20 percent "Koyaanisqatsi" 1980 , "Powaqqatsi" 1988 , and "Naqoyqatsi" 2002 (a movie trilogy)
10 percent "Immortal" 2004
20 percent allegoric images out of Interstella´s repertoire
30 percent found footage about financial crises 1929 and 2008/09
